Movie Review: A Fabled Holiday
Subtitle: “When Fairytales, Romance, and Small Town Drama Collide in the Most Predictable (But Totally Magical) Way.”

A Fabled Holiday is Hallmark’s magical new holiday movie where romance, fairy tales, and that one cousin who insists on being the “Christmas Queen” all come together to make you feel like you’ve just walked into a Christmas-themed dream—or maybe a small-town version of The Bachelor meets Cinderella. Either way, it's full of enough holiday magic and romance to make even the most hardened Grinch swoon.

The plot follows the enchanting Holly (played by the wonderfully charming Brooke D'Orsay) who’s tired of her humdrum holiday routine and just wants a little magic. So, she somehow stumbles into a whimsical town that seems like it was plucked straight out of a storybook—think twinkling lights, cobblestone streets, and an overabundance of small-town charm. She quickly meets a dreamy local (played by the obviously swoon-worthy Ryan Paevey), who just so happens to be running a magical holiday event at the local inn. And—wait for it—Holly just so happens to be in need of a little “fairytale magic” to turn her life around.

Yes, folks, this movie involves an actual magical event and very intentional holiday fate. There's a town festival with a little sprinkling of Christmas “fables” where Holly finds herself playing a modern-day Cinderella. (Because nothing says "romantic comedy" like switching out the glass slipper for a fancy holiday gala ticket.) Cue the inevitable romantic tension, some "I’m not sure I want to fall for you" moments, and—of course—some very predictable snowstorms.

The humor in this movie lies in the ridiculous, over-the-top situations that happen when you combine a high-powered professional woman who “just needs a break” and a small-town guy whose job description probably involves some version of "holiday miracle maker." Watching Holly try to navigate small-town life with all of the grace of a deer on ice skates is hilarious. From awkward town parades to failed attempts at baking Christmas cookies, Holly's life is suddenly filled with chaotic “magic” she didn’t expect—mostly in the form of misplaced mistletoe, surprise Christmas dances, and awkwardly timed “accidental” hand touches.

There’s also a whole lot of meddling family members—because, let’s face it, no Hallmark movie is complete without them. Holly’s relatives insist on playing the role of matchmaking fairies, and there’s that one overenthusiastic friend who is way too into the whole “fairytale fantasy” thing. They’re basically the fairy godparents you never knew you needed. Throw in a local bake-off (which inevitably ends with an undercooked gingerbread house disaster), a Christmas tree lighting ceremony that feels like a bigger deal than most New Year’s Eve parties, and some unexpected romantic tension—and you’ve got yourself a Hallmark Christmas miracle.

As for the romance, well, you know exactly where it’s going. Holly and Mr. Dreamy spend the entire movie “not falling in love,” despite the fact that everyone in town—including the town’s dog—knows they are meant to be together. There are awkward looks, stolen glances, and that “Oh, I’m so not ready for love” moment that Hallmark movies do best. But trust me, it’s all worth it for that magical, perfectly timed kiss in front of the twinkling lights and the town’s giant holiday tree—because no Hallmark movie is complete without it.

The grand finale, of course, is as heartwarming as it is cheesy. Holly decides that maybe her “fairytale” isn’t a job or a perfect life in the city—it’s a small town, magical love, and someone who’s just perfect for her. The town gets its happily-ever-after, Holly gets her true love, and everyone’s filled with so much Christmas spirit that even the most cynical viewer will be grinning.

A Fabled Holiday is the kind of movie that makes you believe in the magic of Christmas—and in the possibility of falling in love in the most predictably delightful way. It’s sweet, magical, and ridiculously charming. Grab your cocoa, your coziest blanket, and enjoy the heartwarming ride through small-town holiday chaos, love, and a sprinkle of fable magic. 🎄✨💫
