A Royal Queens Christmas is Hallmark’s fantastically bonkers mashup of royalty, New York City grit, and enough holiday cheer to make even Buckingham Palace look underdressed. It’s the kind of festive rom-com that leaves you asking, “Is there a visa process for falling in love with a prince?”

The story follows Dee Dee (Megan Park), a Queens pastry chef with dreams as big as her Christmas cookies, and Colin (Julian Morris), a European prince incognito in the Big Apple. Colin is in town for a secret royal errand (because, naturally, princes handle their own Christmas errands), but when Dee Dee accidentally ropes him into a local Christmas charity event, his royal cover is blown—well, slowly. Sparks fly, cookies crumble, and somehow, Queens becomes the epicenter of holiday magic.

Megan Park’s Dee Dee is hilariously relatable, balancing her big heart with just enough skepticism to keep things grounded. Julian Morris’s Colin is the perfect royal romantic lead: charming, impeccably dressed, and utterly baffled by the concept of “DIY Christmas.” Watching him navigate Queens with the grace of a man who’s clearly never held a subway pass is worth the price of admission.

The movie leans hard into its fish-out-of-water premise, with Colin bumbling through tasks like tree decorating and dough rolling under Dee Dee’s watchful (and judgmental) eye. His growing affection for her—and her unapologetically festive neighborhood—is as sweet as the mountains of icing sugar covering her bakery.

The Queens setting is a standout character in its own right. From bustling streets decked in Christmas lights to nosy neighbors who somehow know Colin’s secret before he does, the borough adds a gritty-but-cozy charm that sets this movie apart from the usual royal fare. Plus, the charity concert Dee Dee and Colin organize is hilariously over-the-top, featuring everything from kids singing off-key carols to Colin awkwardly playing the piano like his kingdom depends on it.

The humor shines brightest in the supporting cast. Dee Dee’s family is peak New York: loud, opinionated, and completely unfazed by the fact that there’s a literal prince hanging out in their living room. Meanwhile, Colin’s royal entourage spends most of the movie frantically trying to stop him from blowing his cover, which he does repeatedly because, well, love.

Of course, the romance builds predictably but adorably. Colin and Dee Dee bond over late-night cookie baking, heartfelt chats about following their dreams, and one too many “accidental” mistletoe moments. By the time the big reveal happens—complete with Colin donning a sash and Dee Dee realizing her bakery might soon have royal clientele—you’ll be grinning like a kid opening presents.

The grand finale delivers all the Hallmark essentials: a declaration of love, a perfectly timed snowfall, and a promise that Dee Dee’s cookies will somehow fix international relations. It’s cheesy, heartwarming, and utterly delightful.
