"A Summer Romance: Where Predictability Meets Sunscreen and Swooning"
If you’ve ever watched a Hallmark movie and thought, “Wow, this could use more sand and fewer Christmas trees,” then A Summer Romance (2019) is the cinematic equivalent of a beach towel—soft, familiar, and perfect for lying on while you zone out. This film is basically a Hallmark holiday movie, but instead of snowflakes and hot cocoa, we get seashells and iced tea. Same formula, different season.
The plot is as predictable as a sunrise in a Hallmark movie: city girl (who’s definitely too busy for love) returns to her quaint coastal hometown, bumps into her high school sweetheart (who’s definitely still single and inexplicably hot), and rediscovers the magic of small-town life. Spoiler alert: there’s a quirky best friend, a meddling but lovable parent, and a montage of sunsets so golden they could double as Instagram filters.
The chemistry between the leads is... well, let’s just say it’s as believable as a Hallmark movie where the CEO of a major corporation falls for a small-town baker who only makes cupcakes. But hey, who needs realism when you have a soundtrack full of ukuleles and a dog that steals every scene it’s in?
A Summer Romance is the kind of movie you watch when you’re craving comfort food for your brain. It’s not groundbreaking, it’s not deep, and it’s definitely not winning any Oscars. But if you’re a fan of Hallmark movies (or Hallmark holiday movies, but with fewer sweaters), this is the perfect way to spend 90 minutes of your life. Just don’t forget the sunscreen—you might get a sunburn from all that wholesome glow.
Rating: 3 out of 5 seashells. Would recommend for a lazy Sunday afternoon or when you need a break from thinking too hard.
