Because of Cupid
Subtitle: When Your Drink Order Accidentally Includes “Side of Love Potion”
If you’ve ever watched Hallmark holiday movies and thought, “This is great, but what if Cupid just showed up and started spiking beverages?” then Because of Cupid is here to deliver chaos with a garnish of romance. This movie takes the classic Hallmark movies formula — best friends who are obviously meant to be together — and adds one tiny twist: magical liquid that turns everyone into aggressively affectionate humans.
Naomi and Marcus are best friends and bartenders trying to save their bar by entering a Valentine’s Day mocktail competition. Totally normal. Completely relatable. What’s less relatable is the moment a mysterious stranger (who is, you guessed it, literally Cupid) hands them a potion that somehow ends up in their drinks, causing spontaneous love confessions and romantic mayhem across half the guest list.
Suddenly, everyone is falling in love faster than you can say “extra garnish,” including Marcus, who goes from “just friends” to “I have loved you all along” in about 3.5 seconds. Naomi, understandably, is like, “Is this real or did you just drink enchanted syrup?” which is honestly a fair question that Hallmark movies rarely force their characters to ask.
Unlike traditional Hallmark holiday movies filled with snow and mistletoe, this one swaps in cocktails and Cupid, but the emotional blueprint is the same: heartfelt realizations, comedic misunderstandings, and at least one scene where someone stares longingly while questioning their life choices. The difference is, here you also have to wonder if anyone should be legally allowed to mix drinks again.
By the end, the potion may wear off, but the feelings stick around — because this is still Hallmark, and true love doesn’t require FDA approval. Because of Cupid proves that whether it’s snowflakes or suspicious beverages, romance will always find a way… preferably with a lime wedge and a little magical interference.
