Movie Review: Christmas at Castle Hart
Subtitle: “When Faking It Leads to Fairy-Tale Romance—and a Castle.”
Christmas at Castle Hart is Hallmark’s dreamy dive into Irish countryside romance, where mistaken identities, royal-adjacent charm, and a whole lot of twinkling lights turn a simple holiday trip into the most over-the-top Christmas adventure you’ve ever seen. Think Downton Abbey meets The Parent Trap—with way more tinsel.
The story follows Brooke (Lacey Chabert), a recently unemployed event planner who heads to Ireland with her sister to reconnect with her roots. Instead, she gets mistaken for a high-profile New York event designer and is roped into planning a lavish Christmas party for Aiden (Stuart Townsend), the charming Earl of Glaslough. Brooke decides to roll with the charade, because who wouldn’t when a castle and a cute Earl are involved?
Lacey Chabert’s Brooke is a classic Hallmark heroine: relatable, resourceful, and just unflappable enough to pull off pretending to be someone else for two straight weeks. Stuart Townsend’s Aiden is peak Hallmark aristocracy—handsome, slightly brooding, and surprisingly down-to-earth for a guy who owns a literal castle. Their chemistry is sweet and understated, with plenty of stolen glances and flirty banter as Brooke tries to balance lying about her credentials with actually falling for Aiden.
The castle itself is a character, too—because of course it is. It’s decked out in so many Christmas decorations it feels like Santa personally supervised the design team. There’s a ballroom perfect for romantic dances, a kitchen seemingly made for cookie-decorating montages, and a massive Christmas tree that somehow looks better in every scene.
The humor comes from Brooke’s increasingly absurd attempts to maintain her cover. Watching her try to navigate high-society expectations while googling “how to host a fancy Irish Christmas party” on the sly is comedy gold. Meanwhile, her sister serves as the ultimate comedic sidekick, alternately helping with the ruse and making sarcastic comments about Brooke’s growing crush on Aiden.
The townsfolk add even more charm, from a nosy housekeeper who definitely knows something is up to the local pub regulars who treat every new visitor like family. And let’s not forget the subplot where Brooke and Aiden try to save the castle’s Christmas traditions from financial ruin, because no Hallmark movie is complete without a heartwarming save-the-day moment.
The romance builds predictably but perfectly, with all the classic Hallmark moments: decorating the tree together, an almost-kiss interrupted by a conveniently timed distraction, and a heartfelt conversation in front of a roaring fire. By the time Brooke’s secret inevitably comes out, you’ll be too invested in their love story to care about the ethics of her deception.
The grand finale is a Hallmark dream: a lavish Christmas gala where everything goes wrong—until it all goes right. Brooke confesses the truth, Aiden forgives her in record time, and they share a swoon-worthy kiss as snow falls inside the castle courtyard (because Ireland apparently has its own magical weather system).
Christmas at Castle Hart is a funny, feel-good holiday movie that delivers all the romance, laughter, and festive charm you could ask for. It’s perfect for anyone who’s ever dreamed of stumbling into a castle, meeting an Earl, and hosting a Christmas party with zero prior experience. Grab some cocoa, don your fanciest scarf, and prepare to be swept away by this delightful holiday fantasy. 🎄🏰❤️
