Christmas at Dollywood (2019): Deck the Halls with Southern Charm and Sequins

Christmas at Dollywood isn’t just a Hallmark movie; it’s a rhinestone-studded journey into the heart of Tennessee, where the Christmas trees are taller, the lights are brighter, and Dolly Parton reigns supreme. This movie delivers everything you could want from a holiday flick: small-town charm, festive shenanigans, and just enough Dolly to make you wish she’d narrate your life.

The story follows Rachel (Danica McKellar), an ambitious event planner from the big city who’s hired to organize Dollywood’s annual Christmas celebration. Yes, her job is essentially to sprinkle extra glitter on an already sparkly theme park. As with all Hallmark heroines, Rachel is wildly overqualified and dangerously close to burning out—until she meets Luke (Niall Matter), a Dollywood employee with a heart of gold and an aversion to change.

From the moment Rachel steps into Dollywood, it’s clear this isn’t just a Christmas movie—it’s a love letter to Dolly herself. Every scene feels like an excuse to show off the park’s dazzling décor and wholesome Southern charm. And honestly, who can blame them? Dollywood looks so magical it might as well be the North Pole’s southern branch.

Rachel and Luke’s relationship follows the classic “big-city gal meets small-town guy” formula. They bicker over planning details, bond over mutual love for Christmas traditions, and eventually realize they’re perfect for each other. It’s all so predictable that you could set your watch by the moment they fall in love, but it’s also ridiculously cute.

The real star of the movie, of course, is Dolly Parton. While she doesn’t have a ton of screen time, every one of her scenes is pure gold. She swoops in like a Christmas fairy godmother, dispensing wisdom, warmth, and just the right amount of sass. At one point, she says something so Dolly-perfect you half expect the credits to roll early because nothing can top it.

The movie also leans hard into holiday tropes. There are tree-lighting ceremonies, cookie-decorating contests, and more hot cocoa than any one person should reasonably consume. And let’s not forget the big Christmas festival, which somehow manages to come together flawlessly despite constant interruptions from snowball fights and heartfelt conversations.

Danica McKellar and Niall Matter have great chemistry, even if their characters’ problems feel about as high-stakes as forgetting to buy wrapping paper. Their banter is charming, their romantic moments are sweet, and by the time they kiss under the twinkling Dollywood lights, you’ll be rooting for them like it’s the Super Bowl of holiday love.

Is Christmas at Dollywood groundbreaking cinema? Absolutely not. But it’s a warm, fuzzy hug of a movie that’ll make you want to book a trip to Dollywood immediately. It’s festive, fun, and just cheesy enough to remind you why we love Hallmark movies in the first place.

So, grab your glittery cowboy boots, pour some eggnog, and let Dolly Parton remind you that Christmas isn’t just a season—it’s a state of mind. 🎄✨🎶
