Christmas at Graceland: The King, the Queen, and a Lot of Holiday Cheese
Where Hallmark meets the land of Elvis, and predictability gets upstaged by twinkly lights.
Oh, Hallmark movies, you have done it again! You’ve managed to give us yet another unapologetically wholesome and unashamedly predictable nugget of joy with Christmas at Graceland. For those unfamiliar with the genre, Hallmark holiday movies are a unique brew of inescapable nostalgia mixed with enough sugar to induce a Yuletide coma. But throw in a backdrop of Elvis Presley’s home, and suddenly I’m all shook up, right into a sea of mistletoe and slightly questionable Southern accents.
The plot is as reliable as your Aunt Martha’s fruitcake: businesswoman extraordinaire returns to hometown, tackles the holidays, bumps into the one that got away (who is conveniently single and conveniently handsome), and sparks fly faster than you can say “Blue Christmas.” This time our heroine is played by—you guessed it—a former songstress whose heart has more layers of complexity than a pumpkin spice latte.
The movie pushes the limits of Christmas spirit in ways only Hallmark knows how: decorating scenes that go on longer than Santa’s naughty list, heartfelt musical numbers that even Elvis might raise an eyebrow at, and just enough faux snow to convince you Memphis has become a winter wonderland.
I must say, if Hallmark holiday movies are a pie, Christmas at Graceland is certainly the pecan in the mix—sticky, sweet, and a bit nutty—but somehow it all works. Whether it’s the adorable Elvis-themed tree toppers or the inevitable realization that love triumphs over spreadsheets, this is the kind of movie you watch in your coziest pajamas, sipping hot cocoa, and perhaps dreaming of a parallel Hallmark universe where happily ever afters are as common as reindeer in the North Pole.
In conclusion, Christmas at Graceland is one heck of a peanut butter and banana sandwich: a little indulgent, largely satisfying, and all sorts of festive. And while logic may often leave the building, mirth and merriment never do. Thank you, Hallmark, for reminding us that Christmas isn’t complete without a sprinkle of the King’s charm—and a whole lot of holiday cheese.
