Movie Review: Christmas in Harmony
Subtitle: “When Singing in a Choir Leads to Love and a Lot of Holiday Drama.”
Christmas in Harmony is Hallmark’s festive gift to anyone who loves soulful holiday music, second-chance romances, and the kind of church choir drama that makes you feel like you’re watching a Broadway audition disguised as one of the best Holiday movies. It’s a rom-com full of harmony—pun intended—and enough twinkling lights to make even the Grinch whistle a tune.
The story follows Harmony (Ashleigh Murray), a music executive who gets tricked into coming back to her hometown to direct the church choir for their big holiday performance. The catch? The choir includes her ex-boyfriend, Kyle (Luke James), who just happens to have the voice of an angel and the unresolved tension of a Hallmark hero. Cue the sparks, the singing, and the inevitable slow-burn romance set against the backdrop of a show-stopping Christmas concert.
Ashleigh Murray’s Harmony is a perfect mix of ambitious, sassy, and just vulnerable enough to make you root for her. Luke James’s Kyle is classic Hallmark leading man material: handsome, talented, and absolutely terrible at hiding his lingering feelings. Their chemistry is electric, whether they’re clashing over choir arrangements or sharing meaningful glances during rehearsals.
The real star of the movie, though, is the music- what we love to see in Holiday movies. Every scene feels like it could burst into song at any moment, and honestly, most of them do. From impromptu solos to group numbers that seem suspiciously well-rehearsed, the choir’s performances are so good you might forget you’re watching a rom-com and start thinking you’re at a holiday concert.
The humor comes from Harmony’s struggle to wrangle the choir, which includes a hilariously opinionated group of church members, a diva or two, and one guy who probably shouldn’t be singing at all. Watching her balance small-town drama with big-city expectations is as entertaining as it is chaotic. Meanwhile, Kyle’s attempts to win Harmony back while pretending he’s totally over her (spoiler: he’s not) add an extra layer of comedic tension.
The movie leans heavily on its holiday charm, with choir rehearsals doubling as group therapy sessions and church halls decked out in enough Christmas decorations to rival Santa’s workshop. And of course, there’s the inevitable “we’re snowed in, so let’s talk about our feelings” scene that every Hallmark fan knows and loves.
By the time the big concert rolls around, complete with a tear-jerking solo and a standing ovation, you’ll be fully invested in both the music and the romance. The grand finale—featuring a heartfelt confession from Kyle and a perfectly timed kiss under the mistletoe—is so sweet it might just make you sing along.
Christmas in Harmony is a delightful mix of music, romance, and holiday cheer that hits all the right notes. It’s perfect for anyone who loves Holiday movies, a good love story, a great choir performance, or the idea that sometimes, the best way to reconnect is through song. Grab some cocoa, warm up your vocal cords, and let this musical holiday treat sweep you off your feet. 🎄🎶❤️
