Christmas in Love: Tinsel, Twinkling, and Tummy Aches from Too Much Eggnog
If you’ve ever had a sweet tooth that only Hallmark movies can satisfy, "Christmas in Love" is the cinematic equivalent of diving headfirst into a giant gingerbread house made from nothing but marshmallows and frosting. Set in a town that clearly is the last surviving bastion of perfectly manicured eyebrows and impossibly clean scarves, the film manages to capture every Christmas cliché known to mankind in just under two hours.
The story follows a high-powered executive who, after a series of unfortunate yet hilariously predictable events involving a snowstorm and a broken GPS, finds himself stranded in an enchanting, cookie-cutter town reminiscent of all Hallmark holiday movies. Here, he meets our heroine, a baker with a heart of gold and a pecan pie recipe that could solve world peace. Naturally, her bakery is in dire straits, and only a Christmas miracle – or a financially savvy suitor – can save it.
The romance unfolds in a series of meet-cute moments that could only happen in this kind of film: slipping on ice, awkward cookie decorating contests, and finding each other under the mistletoe with all the subtlety of a reindeer in roller skates. It's a tale as old as time, or at least as old as Hallmark holiday movies themselves.
In the grand tradition of Hallmark magic, the film ties up perfectly in a saccharine-coated bow. Our leading man realizes corporate success pales in comparison to true love and expertly kneaded dough. Meanwhile, the heroine discovers her talent for baking is surpassed only by her ability to change a stubborn businessman’s heart.
"Christmas in Love" serves up a festive feast of cozy clichés with all the trimmings; it’s a yuletide yarn that leaves you grinning like a kid hyped up on candy canes. Grab your plaid blanket, put on your fluffiest slippers, and let this predictably delightful story wrap you in a big, warm hug. Just remember to pace yourself – too much sweetness in succession could leave you thinking reindeer really do know how to fly!
