Deck the Halls and Lower Your Expectations: A Review of "Christmas Made to Order"
Ah, 'tis the season of Hallmark holiday movies, where love is in the air and Christmas decorations reach levels of extravagance typically reserved for the North Pole. "Christmas Made to Order" fits snugly into this festive canon like a snug, slightly itchy Christmas sweater you only wear for grandma.
The plot follows Gretchen, a Christmas enthusiast hired by Steven to turn his home into a holiday wonderland. Spoiler alert: in true Hallmark movies fashion, she doesn't just deck his halls; she decks his heart too. The film is as predictable as finding socks under the tree, but that's precisely why we watch Hallmark holiday movies: for their comforting embrace devoid of plot twists or surprises.
Watching this film feels like the cinematic equivalent of wrapping yourself in a warm Christmas blanket and forgetting that the real world lies outside where you still need to find last-minute gifts. The dialogue sparkles with the kind of banter you'd expect from a script where the writers were clearly drinking eggnog instead of coffee.
If you're seeking a profound narrative that challenges your view of the human experience, this isn't it. But if you want to witness two people falling in love amongst an ever-increasing pile of tinsel and mistletoe, then "Christmas Made to Order" is ready to serve. Just like Steven's culinary skills in the kitchen, this movie may not be Michelin-star quality, but sometimes a simple sugar cookie is all you need for the holidays.
