Review

Movie Review: Christmas Waltz
Subtitle: “Two Left Feet, One Right Partner, and a Lot of Holiday Twirling.”

Christmas Waltz is Hallmark’s love letter to dancing, Christmas, and the idea that anyone—yes, even you—can waltz their way into romance with just a few lessons and a ridiculously handsome dance instructor. It’s a holiday rom-com that pirouettes straight into your heart, even if its plot is as predictable as a box of candy canes.

The story follows Avery (Lacey Chabert), a type-A bride-to-be who’s all set to take dance lessons for her upcoming wedding... until her fiancé pulls a Grinch and cancels the whole thing. Devastated but determined, Avery decides to keep her dance lessons anyway—because if life gives you heartbreak, you might as well tango through it.

Enter Roman (Will Kemp), a dreamy dance instructor who looks like he stepped out of a Hallmark casting dream factory. Roman not only teaches Avery to waltz but also teaches her how to let go, embrace the moment, and rediscover the magic of Christmas. Oh, and fall in love. Because obviously.

Lacey Chabert brings her signature charm to Avery, managing to make even her most awkward dance moves look adorable. Will Kemp is the perfect Hallmark leading man: suave, encouraging, and capable of delivering heartfelt speeches while wearing a three-piece suit. Their chemistry is as smooth as their dance steps (eventually), and watching them navigate their growing feelings is like watching a well-choreographed routine—full of twists, turns, and a few intentional stumbles.

The movie is as festive as it is frothy, with every scene set against a backdrop of twinkling lights, snow-dusted streets, and conveniently placed mistletoe. The dance studio itself looks like it was designed by Santa’s interior decorator, complete with Christmas trees in every corner and an endless supply of cocoa for post-rehearsal chats.

The dance scenes are the highlight, ranging from hilariously awkward (Avery’s first attempts) to genuinely magical. Roman’s patience is nothing short of saintly as Avery stomps her way through the basics, but by the time they’re performing a flawless waltz at a Christmas gala, you’ll be fully invested in their ballroom-worthy love story.

And let’s not forget the supporting cast, which includes Avery’s best friend, who doubles as her personal cheerleader, and a group of fellow dancers who seem to exist solely to clap enthusiastically and remind her that she’s totally nailing this. Meanwhile, her ex-fiancé lurks in the background like the human embodiment of regret, which is exactly what he deserves.

By the time the big dance finale rolls around, complete with a romantic confession and a perfectly timed snowfall, you’ll be grinning like a kid at Christmas. Sure, it’s cheesy, but it’s also incredibly sweet—and let’s be honest, no one watches a Hallmark movie for the subtlety.

Christmas Waltz is a twinkly, twirly, toe-tapping delight that proves love, like dance, is all about finding the right partner. It’s perfect for anyone who loves holiday romance, Lacey Chabert’s endless charm, or the idea of waltzing their way into Christmas magic. Grab your cocoa, lace up your imaginary dance shoes, and enjoy the show—no rhythm required. 🎄💃❤️
