"Dream Moms: Where Hallmark Movies Meet Their Overachieving Older Sister"
If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Hallmark movies and Hallmark holiday movies had a baby, and that baby grew up, went to therapy, and decided to be extra, then Dream Moms is the cinematic equivalent of that journey. Released in 2023, this film is like a Hallmark movie on steroids, with a dash of Real Housewives drama and a sprinkle of Stepford Wives vibes. It’s the kind of movie where you laugh, cry, and then question your life choices—all while eating an entire bag of popcorn.
The plot revolves around two moms, Carol and Brenda, who are living in a picture-perfect suburban utopia where everyone’s lawns are greener than their envy. Carol (played by a perpetually perky actress who probably smells like cinnamon rolls) is a Pinterest mom who bakes gluten-free, vegan, organic cupcakes that somehow taste like heaven. Brenda (her rival, played by someone who definitely owns at least three leopard-print blazers) is a corporate powerhouse who secretly dreams of quitting her job to open a llama farm.
When their kids end up on the same soccer team, chaos ensues. There’s a bake-off, a dance-off, and a literal mom-off where they compete to see who can fold a fitted sheet faster. (Spoiler: Brenda wins, but only because she uses black magic.) The stakes are high, the drama is higher, and the amount of glitter involved is borderline hazardous.
What sets Dream Moms apart from your typical Hallmark movies is its self-awareness. It knows it’s ridiculous, and it leans into it. There’s a scene where Carol and Brenda accidentally get locked in a craft store overnight, and instead of panicking, they bond over their shared love of scented candles and passive-aggressive compliments. It’s heartwarming, hilarious, and slightly unhinged—like if Hallmark holiday movies decided to take a vacation to Vegas.
The movie also has a surprisingly poignant message about motherhood, friendship, and the pressure to be perfect. But don’t worry, it’s not all deep thoughts and life lessons. There’s also a subplot involving a rogue squirrel, a karaoke battle set to I Will Survive, and a cameo by a very confused Ryan Reynolds (because why not?).
In conclusion, Dream Moms is the movie equivalent of a glitter bomb: messy, unexpected, and impossible to look away from. It’s what happens when Hallmark movies grow up, get a little sassier, and decide to throw a dance party in the middle of a PTA meeting. If you’re looking for a feel-good film that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is it. Just be warned: you’ll leave the theater wanting to bake cupcakes, adopt a llama, and call your mom.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 glitter-covered stars.
