Movie Review: Magic in Mistletoe
Subtitle: "When Christmas, Magic, and Way Too Much Holiday Magic Collide in the Most Hilariously Perfectly Timed Way."
“Magic in Mistletoe” is Hallmark’s latest holiday treat, where Christmas magic meets romantic chaos, and way too many holiday traditions collide in the most predictably adorable way possible. If you’ve ever wondered, “What if Christmas magic was real, but only in the form of way too many romantic misunderstandings and way too much mistletoe?”—then this movie is exactly the kind of holiday magic you need in your life.
The plot follows Ella (played by Rachel Boston, because, let’s face it, she’s basically Hallmark royalty when it comes to playing the woman who’s way too busy for love but somehow always finds it in the middle of holiday chaos), a successful businesswoman who is definitely not in the mood for “Christmas magic”. After a little too much holiday stress and way too many family expectations, Ella is ready to survive the holidays by staying away from anything remotely magical. Of course, she’s forced to attend a Christmas party at her family’s Christmas tree farm, which she’s been trying to avoid because way too much holiday magic happens there. You know the kind: too many love stories, way too many holiday traditions, and way too many moments where you just know the romance is inevitable.
Enter Liam (played by Jonathan Bennett, who is perfectly cast as the guy who’s clearly hiding his holiday cheer behind a grumpy facade), a charming but too skeptical about Christmas man who’s definitely not interested in all this holiday nonsense—but who’s somehow volunteered to help at the tree farm because the family insisted. Of course, Liam doesn’t believe in the magic of Christmas—until, naturally, he’s suddenly caught in the most ridiculous holiday magic imaginable. And of course, he’s definitely not going to fall for Ella, but if there’s one thing this movie proves, it’s that predictable holiday magic always leads to romance—whether you like it or not.
The humor comes from the chaotic magic of it all. Ella’s reluctant participation in holiday traditions only intensifies as the Christmas magic takes on a life of its own. Whether it’s mysterious mistletoe moments, way too much snow falling at the perfect time, or too many Christmas trees popping up where they shouldn’t be, everything in Ella’s life is suddenly way too festive for her own good. Watching Ella try to ignore the holiday magic while it magically fixes every problem she has—like her way-too-perfect family expecting her to have a perfect Christmas—is comedy gold. The real fun comes from Ella’s sarcastic responses to everything that’s happening around her, because who can handle this much magic and still keep a straight face?
And, of course, there’s the romance. Oh, the romance. Liam and Ella’s “we’re definitely not falling for each other” routine is as obvious as the mistletoe hanging in every doorway. Every time they share a moment of “we’re totally not into each other”, you can practically hear the Christmas carols playing in the background. Watching them accidentally fall in love while navigating way too many magical mishaps is like watching two snowflakes dance in the wind—predictable, but somehow so cute you can’t look away. Every time they share a holiday tradition—whether it’s decorating a tree or accidentally baking cookies together—you know the inevitable perfect kiss is just around the corner.
The grand finale? Predictable yet oh-so-sweet. After way too many magical moments, way too many mistletoe moments, and way too much holiday magic, Ella and Liam finally realize they’ve been in love with each other all along—because of course they have. The magic of Christmas works in mysterious ways, and after an unexpected snowstorm, a perfect Christmas tree lighting, and a little too much holiday cheer, the two of them finally admit their feelings—because nothing says love like magical mistletoe.
“Magic in Mistletoe” is a charming, hilarious, and predictably perfect holiday movie that will have you laughing at way too many Christmas disasters while also swooning at the inevitable romance. If you love watching way too much holiday magic, predictable romantic tension, and way too much mistletoe, then grab your coziest blanket, your favorite holiday treat, and get ready for a movie that’s guaranteed to fill you with Christmas cheer, even if it’s a little too magical for its own good. 🎄💋✨
