Movie Review: Ms. Christmas Comes to Town
Subtitle: "When Christmas, Small-Town Charm, and Way Too Many Holiday Mishaps Collide in the Most Hilariously Predictable Way."
“Ms. Christmas Comes to Town” is Hallmark’s latest holiday miracle that proves once again that Christmas magic and way too many chaotic moments are the perfect recipe for predictable but oh-so-charming holiday bliss. If you’ve ever wondered, "What if a Christmas expert who definitely knows everything about making Christmas perfect ends up in a small town full of way-too-enthusiastic holiday traditions?"—then this movie is just the holiday treat you need. Cue the overly enthusiastic holiday cheer and the romantic tension that’s so obvious, it’s practically tied up with a bow.
The plot follows Carla (played by Brooke D’Orsay, because she’s practically the queen of playing “way-too-organized Christmas expert who’s totally not in the mood for a little romance”), a woman who definitely knows everything about making Christmas perfect—or at least, she thinks she does. Carla’s been hired to help a small town make their Christmas festival the most amazing one yet—because what’s better than making Christmas “perfect” in a town that has way too much Christmas spirit already? Naturally, Carla is totally prepared to show everyone how to organize the perfect holiday event, but of course, she’s about to face more Christmas chaos than she could ever prepare for—and that’s when the fun begins.
Enter Ben (played by Kristoffer Polaha, because who else could play the charming local man who “definitely doesn’t care about Christmas” but somehow ends up getting way too involved in the holiday festivities?). Ben is grumpy about Christmas, way too busy for holiday cheer, and definitely not interested in helping Carla with her “perfect Christmas plans”. But guess what? He somehow ends up working with her anyway, and what better way to experience the true magic of Christmas than by falling for each other during an insane holiday event? It’s the classic “we’re totally not into each other” romance, which everyone knows is just a countdown to the perfect holiday kiss under the mistletoe.
The comedy of this movie comes from the utter chaos that is Carla’s life as she tries to impose perfect holiday standards onto a town that’s way too attached to their quirky Christmas traditions. From decorating disasters to miscommunications over Christmas activities, Carla quickly learns that perfection is overrated, especially when it comes to a small town with way too many Christmas events that are as ridiculous as they are charming. Every time Carla tries to impose her vision of the perfect Christmas on Ben (or any of the way-too-enthusiastic town folk), she’s met with the kind of holiday resistance that only a perfectly chaotic Hallmark movie can deliver. Watching her try to juggle all of the holiday madness while she’s also falling in love with Ben is like watching someone try to decorate a gingerbread house without making a huge mess—ridiculous, chaotic, but somehow adorably sweet.
And, of course, there’s the romance. Every time Carla and Ben accidentally get pulled into another Christmas tradition—from cookie decorating to caroling in the snow—they can’t help but get closer while pretending not to fall for each other. The “we’re not interested in each other” act is as obvious as the next Christmas miracle, but that’s what makes it so fun to watch. They have way too much chemistry, and every time they accidentally brush hands, or share a “I’m definitely not falling for you” moment, you’ll be grinning from ear to ear, knowing exactly how it’s going to end.
The grand finale? Predictable but delightful as always. After way too many Christmas mishaps, romantic misunderstandings, and way too much holiday magic, Carla and Ben finally realize that maybe the perfect Christmas isn’t about having everything just right, but about embracing the chaos and finding love in the middle of it all. Of course, they share the perfect Christmas kiss under the twinkling lights of the town’s over-the-top Christmas tree (because, obviously), and everyone realizes that Christmas isn’t about perfection—it’s about family, traditions, and way too many Christmas miracles.
“Ms. Christmas Comes to Town” is classic Hallmark: way too much holiday magic, way too much festive spirit, and a romance so predictably sweet that you’ll be rolling your eyes and swooning all at the same time. If you love watching way too many Christmas disasters, too many holiday miracles, and a romance that’s as inevitable as the snow falling outside, then grab your coziest blanket, a cup of cocoa, and get ready for a movie that will have you laughing, swooning, and maybe even planning your own small-town Christmas getaway. 🎄💋🎁
