Description
In these interconnected movies, Jennifer and Meg Swift are sisters who couldn’t be closer despite living hours apart. Jennifer is in Salt Lake City, running a successful restaurant she started with her late husband and raising her teenaged son Simon. Meg stayed in their hometown of Hazelwood, helping their parents run the local bakery. This Christmas is the family’s first since the passing of Uncle Dave who owned the town’s beloved theater, The Madison, where many memories were made over the years. When Jennifer and Simon return home for the holiday, they become wistful for one more Christmas at The Madison, despite that it’s for sale and in need of repairs. Meanwhile, Meg is helping Jennifer’s restaurant staff in Salt Lake prepare for a Christmas competition among local restaurants with the winner earning money for the charity of its choice. With the sisters switching cities leading up to the holiday, they find a new sense of purpose and discover what they both truly need in life and in love.

Movie Review: Sister Swap: Christmas in the City
Subtitle: “When Two Sisters Swap Lives, Chaos Ensues—And So Does Love (and a Lot of Holiday Shopping).”
Sister Swap: Christmas in the City is Hallmark’s sequel to the chaotic, feel-good sister-swap saga that asks, “What if your perfectly curated life in the city could be swapped for a small-town adventure filled with holiday mishaps, romance, and entirely too much hot cocoa?” Spoiler: you’d end up questioning your life choices, finding love in the most unexpected places, and learning that maybe Christmas isn’t about perfect planning after all.
In this installment, Jennifer (Kimberly Sustad), the ambitious lawyer, gets swapped into Meg’s (Ashley Williams) life in the city, where she’s thrust into a whirlwind of holiday shopping, big corporate events, and—wait for it—awkward family dinners. Meanwhile, Meg heads back to her hometown, and naturally, hilarity ensues as she tries to juggle a small-town bakery, charming local residents, and the kind of romance that can only blossom when your sister accidentally leaves behind a mess of emails and an unresolved love interest.
Kimberly Sustad’s Jennifer is all about business—until she’s suddenly knee-deep in holiday decorations, managing a Christmas party (and accidentally upstaging the caterer), and dealing with a handsome guy who may or may not have been in love with Meg all along. Meanwhile, Ashley Williams’s Meg is totally out of her element in the big city, attempting to navigate the fast-paced, glamorous world of corporate law, power lunches, and what to wear for a “holiday gala” when you don’t own anything that doesn’t involve glitter and an apron.
The humor in this movie is chef’s kiss perfection. Jennifer’s struggles to fit into Meg’s easy-going small-town life are a mix of hilarity and heart. Watching her fail spectacularly at holiday baking (because who wouldn’t?) and trying to figure out how to wrap a gift without a DIY tutorial is both charming and ridiculously funny. On the flip side, Meg’s attempts to be a high-powered lawyer—who doesn’t know the first thing about corporate jargon—provide some much-needed laughs, especially when she tries to fit in with Jennifer’s super-intense colleagues.
The city setting in this movie is the complete opposite of the charming small-town vibes from the first movie, but the holiday magic still somehow manages to find its way through the skyscrapers and into the heart of the city. There are snowflakes, an impressive number of holiday lights, and the kind of love-filled corporate events that make you wonder why your work functions can’t have more Christmas carolers and less PowerPoint presentations.
The romance is sweet, if not completely unexpected. Jennifer finds herself growing closer to a charming, slightly grumpy event planner (played by the always-handsome Mark Deklin), who clearly has the kind of holiday spirit that can only be found in Hallmark movies. Meanwhile, Meg, in the small town, reconnects with a local chef who just happens to have the perfect holiday recipe—and the kind of heart that would make even Scrooge swoon. It’s all about rediscovering what you really want in life, especially when your holiday decorations are more chaotic than planned.
The grand finale? Naturally, everything is wrapped up with a perfectly timed kiss, a holiday concert, and an awkward family dinner that somehow turns into a magical evening. There’s more snow than a snowplow can handle, and the sisters, despite everything, come away with the most predictable but heartwarming conclusion—love, family, and holiday spirit, all packaged in a Hallmark-approved bow.
Sister Swap: Christmas in the City is a sweet, funny, and festive sequel that reminds us that no matter where you are, whether in a small town or a bustling city, the true holiday magic happens when you’re with the people who matter most—and maybe a random cute guy or two. Grab your sister, some eggnog, and get ready for another round of holiday hijinks and heartwarming Christmas moments. 🎄❤️🎁
