Review

Sugar & Vice: A Hannah Swensen Mystery
Subtitle: Murder, Muffins, and the World’s Most Suspicious Bake Sale

If you’ve ever watched Hallmark movies and thought, “This is delightful, but where’s the light homicide?” then Sugar & Vice: A Hannah Swensen Mystery delivers the perfect blend of cozy crime and aggressively charming baked goods. It’s like Hallmark holiday movies decided to add a dash of danger — but only enough to keep things polite and well-lit.

Hannah Swensen is back, baking cookies and solving crimes like it’s just another Tuesday. Honestly, at this point, if you live in her town and attend any public event involving pastries, you should probably sign a waiver. Between cake tastings and clue chasing, Hannah somehow manages to uncover suspects faster than she can frost a cupcake — which is impressive, because she frosts a lot of cupcakes.

The mystery itself unfolds with all the suspense of someone dramatically stirring batter while side-eyeing a neighbor. Everyone is suspicious, no one locks their doors, and the police are just sort of… there, politely letting Hannah do their job. It’s classic Hallmark movies logic: if you can bake, you can definitely solve a crime.

Unlike traditional Hallmark holiday movies filled with snow and romance (don’t worry, there’s still a little of that), this one swaps mistletoe for motives and gingerbread for genuine intrigue. Still, it maintains that cozy charm where even a murder investigation feels like something you could enjoy with a warm blanket and a plate of cookies.

By the end, you’ll be equal parts satisfied and slightly concerned about how often Hannah stumbles upon crimes. Sugar & Vice proves that in the Hallmark universe, love is sweet, danger is mild, and justice is best served… with a side of baked goods.
