The Love Heist
Subtitle: Missing Dresses, Hotel Security, and the Most Fashionable Crime Scene in Chicago

Nothing says “romantic weekend in Chicago” quite like losing a priceless designer gown and immediately becoming a suspect in your own fashion emergency.

In The Love Heist, celebrity stylist Kayli arrives in Chicago to prepare her client for the city's big Costume Gala. Everything is going according to plan until an iconic vintage gown mysteriously disappears. Because apparently the fashion industry has decided that simply wearing expensive clothes isn't stressful enough.

Now Kayli has to find the missing dress before the gala, and her unlikely partner is Mills, the hotel's head of security. Together, they investigate the crime while doing what Hallmark movies do best: developing suspiciously strong romantic chemistry during an investigation that probably should involve significantly more police.

The premise is wonderfully ridiculous. A priceless gown disappears, everyone seems suspicious, and Kayli and Mills begin poking around for clues. Somehow, amid all this, they have plenty of time for meaningful conversations, flirtatious banter and the kind of prolonged eye contact that would make any competent security department nervous.

Mills brings the security expertise, while Kayli brings the fashion expertise. Together, they form the perfect investigative team: one knows where the cameras are, and the other knows what the criminals are wearing.

It's basically CSI: Couture.

The movie also understands one of the fundamental laws of Hallmark movies: professional competence is extremely attractive. Give two people a mystery, force them to spend an unreasonable amount of time together, and eventually they'll stop talking about the missing evidence and start talking about their feelings.

Naturally, the investigation takes them through a parade of glamorous suspects, fashion-world drama and conveniently timed revelations. Everyone has a secret, everyone has a motive, and nobody seems particularly concerned that a multimillion-dollar garment has disappeared.

Unlike Hallmark holiday movies, there isn't a Christmas tree farm or a small-town festival in sight. Instead, we get Chicago, luxury hotels, celebrity fashion and enough couture to make the average person's closet feel like a government-issued uniform.

The Love Heist is a fun combination of romance, mystery and fashion-world nonsense. It's stylish, breezy and just implausible enough to be entertaining.

And let's be honest: the real mystery isn't who stole the dress.

It's how Kayli and Mills managed to solve a major fashion crime while looking that good and finding time to fall in love.
