Movie Review: The Mistletoe Secret
Subtitle: “When Love, Lies, and Christmas Blogs Collide Under the Mistletoe.”

The Mistletoe Secret is a Hallmark holiday rom-com that takes the classic love triangle and wraps it in twinkling lights, small-town charm, and just enough ridiculousness to make you laugh through the sweetness. It’s a story about finding love, being honest, and apparently using blog posts to save an entire town.

The plot follows Aria (Kellie Pickler), the cheery owner of a small-town diner in Midway, Utah, who’s determined to put her town on the map as the ultimate Christmas destination. Enter Alex (Tyler Hynes), a brooding travel writer sent to review Midway for a popular blog. Also entering the scene is Sterling (Patrick Duffy), Alex’s boss and a self-proclaimed "holiday expert." What starts as a professional trip quickly turns into a tangled mess of mistaken intentions, growing affections, and more holiday decorations than one town could possibly afford.

Kellie Pickler’s Aria is Hallmark-perfect: bubbly, optimistic, and somehow always ready to save the day with a plate of cookies or a heartfelt speech. Tyler Hynes as Alex is the grumpy outsider who, predictably, finds himself falling for both Aria and the charm of small-town life. Watching Alex try to navigate his feelings while pretending to be someone he’s not is equal parts hilarious and endearing.

And then there’s Sterling, who steals every scene with his over-the-top enthusiasm for all things Christmas. He’s the kind of guy who probably owns a collection of holiday-themed bow ties and refers to himself as “Mr. Mistletoe.” His dramatic one-liners about “the spirit of the season” will either make you cringe or laugh out loud.

The movie leans heavily into Hallmark tropes, including:
- A very festive small-town Christmas festival, complete with snowball fights, tree lightings, and about 47 kinds of hot cocoa.
- A series of comically awkward moments where Alex tries (and fails) to reveal his true identity.
- The inevitable mistletoe scene, because it’s right there in the title.

Unintentionally funny highlights include:
- Midway’s obsession with being a “top Christmas destination,” as though bloggers control the holiday tourism market.
- Aria’s diner, which seems to have infinite decorations and customers who only order peppermint desserts.
- Alex furiously typing up blog drafts in a corner while everyone else is singing carols, because deadlines wait for no man—even in Hallmark Land.

Of course, the romance is what you’re here for, and The Mistletoe Secret delivers. The chemistry between Aria and Alex builds slowly, with plenty of lingering looks and festive activities to bring them closer together. By the time they have their big, dramatic “under the mistletoe” moment, you’ll be rooting for them like they’re the last marshmallow in a cup of cocoa.

But the real joy of this movie is its sheer holiday absurdity. From the over-the-top decorations to the idea that one blog post could make or break an entire town’s economy, The Mistletoe Secret embraces its cheesiness with unapologetic glee. It’s ridiculous, yes, but that’s what makes it so much fun.

So, grab your coziest blanket, pour yourself some eggnog, and settle in for a movie that’s as sweet and silly as a candy cane. Because sometimes, all you need is a little mistletoe magic and a lot of holiday spirit to make everything feel just right. 🎄✨❤️
