When a Suit Turns Sorbo into Santa, and Christmas Gets a Whole Lot Funnier
In The Santa Suit, Hallmark proves yet again that they can take even the wildest premise and turn it into a heartwarming holiday tale. Starring Kevin Sorbo, Jodie Dowdall, and Derry Robinson, this Hallmark holiday movie is what happens when you mix Christmas magic with a hefty dose of corporate comeuppance—and, of course, a magical red suit.
Kevin Sorbo stars as a smug toy company CEO who’s more “bah humbug” than “ho ho ho.” After ignoring the true meaning of Christmas one too many times, he gets a not-so-subtle intervention from the holiday gods (or maybe just a mischievous elf?). Enter the titular Santa suit, which somehow transforms Sorbo into the jolly old man himself. Yes, that’s right—Kevin Sorbo goes full Kris Kringle, complete with the belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly. Hilarity ensues.
Meanwhile, Jodie Dowdall shines as the sweet and sensible love interest who has no idea why her Scrooge-like boss is suddenly handing out candy canes and saying things like “Merry Christmas” without sarcasm. Derry Robinson, playing the resident office jokester, provides plenty of laughs as he tries to figure out what’s happened to the boss he loves to hate.
As Sorbo’s character stumbles his way through his Santa-ized existence—learning lessons about generosity, kindness, and the power of Christmas spirit—the movie delivers all the classic Hallmark tropes we know and love. There’s a snow-covered town square, a heartwarming subplot about an orphanage, and just enough holiday magic to make you believe that even the grumpiest corporate tycoon can turn over a new (evergreen) leaf.
Of course, this is a Hallmark holiday movie, so there’s no shortage of cheesy dialogue and conveniently timed snowfalls. But what really sets The Santa Suit apart is its blend of laugh-out-loud moments and genuinely touching scenes. Watching Kevin Sorbo try to figure out how to hoist a sack of toys while rediscovering his humanity is, dare I say, Christmas comedy gold.
So, if you’re looking for a Hallmark holiday movie with a little extra sparkle (and a lot of Kevin Sorbo in a Santa beard), grab some cocoa and settle in for The Santa Suit. It’s festive, funny, and a reminder that sometimes, the best way to fix your life is to literally walk a mile in Santa’s boots.
