Movie Review: Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas
Subtitle: "When Holiday Heartache, Christmas Miracles, and Way Too Many Emotional Flashbacks Collide in the Most Predictably Sweet Way."

“Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas” is Hallmark’s latest holiday emotional rollercoaster, and if you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you combined romantic heartbreak, holiday miracles, and a mystery involving a missing man—this movie is your perfect Christmas emotional journey. If you love the classic Hallmark formula—meaning emotional baggage, holiday spirit, and the inevitable love confession—then buckle up, because this movie is a lot.

The plot follows Hailey (played by Lacey Chabert, because of course) as a woman who’s just trying to get through the holidays. She’s back in her small hometown, where everything reminds her of the one Christmas she definitely can’t forget: the year she lost her love, her perfect holiday relationship turned tragic, and she found herself alone and still heartbroken. Oh, and did I mention that her ex’s mysterious disappearance around Christmas? Yeah, that’s part of the plot too.

Naturally, Hailey’s trying to move on, but the universe (and Hallmark) have other plans for her. Enter a mysterious Christmas card that somehow sets her on a journey to finally solve the mystery of her ex’s disappearance. In true Hallmark fashion, one Christmas miracle leads to another as Hailey uncovers secrets about her ex, her past, and maybe, just maybe, her future. And of course, there’s the romantic element—because if your ex is mysteriously involved in your holiday miracle, the whole “I’m definitely not falling in love again” routine is definitely going to happen.

The humor in this movie comes from the sheer amount of over-the-top holiday drama that surrounds Hailey’s quest to solve her ex’s mystery. From awkward reunions with old friends who are way too invested in her love life to the classic family interventions where everyone keeps insisting that “Christmas is the time for miracles!”—it’s a predictable yet utterly charming mess. Hailey, meanwhile, tries to keep it together in the face of so many Christmas-tinged emotions, which we all know is basically impossible during any Hallmark movie.

And then there’s the romance—oh, the romance. As if Hailey wasn’t already dealing with enough emotional baggage, she has a new love interest in the form of an adorable small-town local (played by Tyler Hynes, because Hallmark knows exactly what they’re doing). Naturally, Hailey tries to resist him because she’s still hung up on her ex (even though he’s been missing for years), but the undeniable chemistry between Hailey and the new guy is so obvious that even Santa Claus would be like, “Yeah, they’re gonna kiss by the end of this movie.”

But here’s the real kicker—while Hailey is trying to figure out what happened to her ex, her journey of rediscovery and Christmas spirit comes with way too many flashbacks to her magically perfect previous Christmases. Every time she tries to move forward, she’s bombarded with romantic, snow-filled memories that remind her of everything she’s lost—and honestly, if there were a Christmas-themed memory lane, Hailey would be running down it every five minutes. If you like emotional scenes where people stand on porches looking wistfully at the snow while remembering their lost love, this movie will deliver all of that.

And, of course, there’s the grand finale. Predictably heartwarming, as always. After uncovering all the emotional mysteries (no spoilers, but some things will come to light), Hailey comes to the conclusion that maybe love isn’t about holding onto the past, but letting it go and moving forward—preferably with her perfect new love interest by her side. There’s a grand holiday kiss, the Christmas miracle you saw coming, and a cheerful family gathering that, naturally, includes a dramatic Christmas toast.

“Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas” is a holiday movie full of heart, mystery, and that Hallmark-perfect mix of joy and sadness that you didn’t know you needed. It’s funny in the sweet, predictable way that Hallmark movies always are—so grab your coziest blanket, a box of tissues (because you’ll need them), and get ready to embark on an emotional, holiday-filled journey that will have you laughing one minute, crying the next, and definitely wondering how much more Christmas magic you can handle. 🎄💌💋
