Movie Review: To All a Good Night
Subtitle: "When Christmas, Way Too Much Drama, and Way Too Many Secrets Collide in the Most Hilariously Predictable Way."

“To All a Good Night” is Hallmark’s latest holiday movie, and it’s got everything: way too much holiday chaos, way too many secrets, and way too many heartfelt moments that make you want to throw your hands up and say, “Of course, that’s what happens.” If you’ve ever wondered, “What if a perfectly lovely holiday dinner turned into way too much family drama, too many holiday secrets, and an unexpected romance?”—then this movie is the Christmas gift that keeps on giving.

The plot follows Samantha (played by Tori Anderson, who’s definitely the perfect fit for “grumpy but secretly sentimental holiday heroine”), a successful woman who’s definitely not in the mood for Christmas this year. Her plans for a quiet holiday are ruined when she’s forced to return home to join her way-too-involved family for their traditional Christmas dinner. Of course, this is Hallmark, and no one’s family holiday dinner is ever actually normal. She’s greeted by her “way too festive” mom, her “way too opinionated” dad, and, of course, her “way too much drama” siblings, each of whom has a Christmas secret that’s about to come to light in the most hilariously chaotic way possible.

Enter Ben (played by Stephen Huszar, who is obviously the perfect fit for the “I’m definitely not falling in love with you, but somehow I’m about to” type), a local guy who just so happens to be at the dinner because he’s been roped into the family’s Christmas plans—because what’s more Hallmark than a completely random person getting involved in the “perfectly imperfect holiday”? Ben has his own Christmas issues but is “too cool for Christmas drama”—until he’s suddenly roped into it by Samantha, because of course, they’re totally not falling in love. Naturally, they’re definitely going to fall for each other, but you have to watch them pretend not to be in love through way too many holiday mishaps.

The comedy in this movie comes from the utter absurdity of family gatherings and holiday secrets. Everyone’s definitely hiding something—whether it’s that aunt who’s clearly planning a Christmas proposal in front of everyone (because, who doesn’t have that aunt?), or siblings who are definitely competing for the “perfect Christmas gift” crown. The awkward moments unfold so perfectly that it’s as if the entire family has been waiting for an excuse to spill everything. From accidentally ruining the Christmas ham to too many holiday toasts that end in awkward confessions, every family tradition in this house ends in way too much chaos—but somehow, it all feels right.

And of course, there’s the romance. Every time Samantha and Ben accidentally find themselves together, whether it’s by the too-perfect fire or getting trapped in the snow together, the romantic tension is so thick that even Grandma can see it. Their "we’re definitely not into each other" routine is so obvious it’s like watching two snowflakes fall in love. Their chemistry is as undeniable as the Christmas magic surrounding them. Whether they’re sharing awkwardly romantic looks over eggnog or accidentally getting stuck under mistletoe (because, of course), you can almost hear the Christmas music swelling every time they accidentally bump into each other.

The grand finale? Predictably perfect, of course. After way too many holiday mishaps, romantic misunderstandings, and way too many hilarious family interventions, Samantha and Ben realize that maybe Christmas isn’t about the perfect holiday dinner—it’s about embracing the chaos and finding love in the middle of it all. Naturally, they share a perfect kiss under a twinkling Christmas tree (because Hallmark wouldn’t be Hallmark without that) while the entire family cheers—because who doesn’t want to celebrate Christmas with way too much family drama and way too many love confessions?

“To All a Good Night” is everything you want from a Hallmark Christmas movie: too much family chaos, too many Christmas secrets, and a romance that’s as inevitable as the snowstorm that’s about to hit. If you enjoy watching way too many holiday disasters, romantic misunderstandings, and a movie that proves Christmas is all about finding love in the middle of the mess, then grab your coziest blanket, a cup of cocoa, and get ready to laugh, swoon, and wonder if your own holiday gatherings are secretly as dramatic. 🎄💋✨
