Review

Movie Review: Under the Christmas Sky
Subtitle: "When Christmas, Too Much Holiday Magic, and Way Too Many Random Happenings Collide in the Most Predictably Hilarious Way."

“Under the Christmas Sky” is one of Hallmark’s latest Christmas movies where the only thing more abundant than Christmas spirit is the absolutely absurd amount of Christmas miracles that pile up like snowflakes in a snowstorm. If you’ve ever wondered, “What if a grumpy, workaholic woman who definitely doesn’t care about Christmas is forced to visit her childhood hometown and gets way too caught up in the holiday magic she’s spent years avoiding?”, then this movie is exactly what you’ve been looking for. Spoiler alert: There’s way too much holiday charm, way too many romantic misunderstandings, and, of course, a perfectly predictable romance just waiting to happen.

The plot follows Kate (played by Aimee Teegarden, who, of course, is perfect for the “I’m way too busy to care about Christmas” role), a high-powered woman whose career is basically her life. She’s definitely not interested in small-town Christmas traditions, especially when she gets called back to her childhood town for the holidays to help with a town event—because nothing screams “Christmas magic” like a super stressed-out businesswoman who’s definitely not here for this holiday nonsense. She’s only in town to make a quick business decision and get out of there—but, of course, Hallmark knows that no one can escape Christmas magic for long.

Enter Ryan (played by Andrew Walker, because, let’s face it, no Hallmark movie is complete without the charming local man who’s definitely too perfect to be real). Ryan is the complete opposite of Kate—he’s way too into Christmas, way too into town traditions, and way too much of a holiday enthusiast for someone like Kate to understand. Naturally, these two are definitely not going to fall in love—but just wait for the Christmas magic to kick in. Spoiler alert: They totally do, and it’s as predictable as the snow falling in the background of every Hallmark Christmas scene.

The comedy comes from the absolute chaos of the holiday traditions that Kate gets dragged into. Every Christmas event in town is way too over-the-top festive, from the town parade that goes wrong, to the “family-friendly Christmas tree competition” that’s definitely more stressful than it needs to be. Watching Kate try to keep her cool while everyone in town is way too obsessed with holiday cheer is like watching someone try to decorate a gingerbread house without eating half the candy first—utterly chaotic, ridiculously fun, and totally hilarious in one of our favorite Christmas movies.

And of course, the romance. Every time Kate and Ryan share a “we’re definitely not into each other” moment, you can practically hear the Christmas carols playing in the background. Whether they’re accidentally bumping into each other while decorating a tree or sharing a way too awkward kiss under a way-too-perfect mistletoe, their chemistry is so obvious, it’s almost like the Christmas lights are in on the secret. The romantic tension between them is as thick as the holiday cookies they’re definitely going to share, and you know that when the mistletoe moment finally happens, it’s going to be perfect—because this is Hallmark.

The grand finale? Predictably heartwarming, of course. After way too many Christmas disasters, too many “I’m not falling for you” moments, and way too much holiday intervention from the whole town, Kate finally realizes that Christmas isn’t about making everything perfect—it’s about embracing the chaos and letting love find you in the middle of it all. Of course, this leads to the perfect Christmas kiss in front of the perfectly decorated Christmas tree, surrounded by a town that’s way too festive for its own good.

“Under the Christmas Sky” is everything you expect from Hallmark: way too much Christmas magic, way too many holiday mishaps, and a romance so inevitable that even the snowflakes know it’s coming. If you love watching too many Christmas disasters, romantic misunderstandings, and a movie that proves Christmas is all about finding love in the mess, then grab your coziest blanket, your favorite holiday treat, and get ready for a movie that will have you laughing, swooning, and wondering if maybe your own Christmas could be a little more magically chaotic after all. Don't skip out on one of the sweetest of Hallmark's Christmas movies.🎄💋❄️
