Movie Review: We Wish You a Married Christmas
Subtitle: "When Marriage, Holiday Chaos, and Way Too Much Christmas Spirit Collide in the Most Hilariously Heartwarming Way."

“We Wish You a Married Christmas” is Hallmark’s latest attempt to make you believe in the power of love, Christmas, and the idea that nothing says ‘romantic holiday magic’ like a couple who’s definitely pretending their marriage isn’t on the brink of disaster. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if a perfectly happy married couple tried to reignite the spark while navigating too many Christmas traditions, way too many holiday parties, and a surprising amount of tinsel, then this movie is exactly what you need.

The plot follows Megan (played by Nikki DeLoach) and Andrew (played by Brendan Penny), a married couple who, on the surface, seem totally perfect. They’ve got the Christmas spirit (the tree, the cookies, the matching sweaters), but secretly—shocker—they’re struggling with their relationship and maybe losing sight of what really matters. So, they decide to spend the holidays trying to fix their marriage with a Christmas-themed romantic getaway—which, of course, involves way too many family reunions, over-the-top holiday activities, and accidental romantic moments. Spoiler alert: This being Hallmark, they definitely end up falling in love again, but not without some absolutely hilarious holiday mishaps along the way.

The comedy here is all about the chaos—and by chaos, I mean a married couple trying to keep up with family traditions while simultaneously avoiding all the awkward conversations about how their marriage is falling apart. Picture this: Megan and Andrew try to reignite their passion by participating in every Christmas tradition imaginable—like decorating the house in a way that would make Martha Stewart jealous and attending the family Christmas dinner where everyone has a secret agenda about their love life. As if that wasn’t enough, the couple gets pulled into a holiday scavenger hunt that’s clearly meant for families who’ve had way too much time on their hands to plan these Christmas “adventures”. Watching Megan and Andrew try to maintain their “perfect” marriage while failing spectacularly at holiday activities is nothing short of comedic gold. They might be pretending to have it together, but nothing goes as planned in the world of Hallmark holiday movies.

Of course, no Hallmark Christmas movie is complete without a predictable romantic arc, and this one delivers in the most delightfully cheesy way possible. The “we’re definitely not in love” dynamic between Megan and Andrew is so obviously fake that you’ll be rooting for them to realize it’s time to rekindle their romance—but only after a ridiculously timed kiss under the Christmas lights, a perfectly orchestrated snowstorm, and at least three awkward family interventions. Every time they accidentally find themselves alone under mistletoe or have deeply emotional conversations over hot cocoa, you’ll be laughing at how predictably heartwarming it is. There’s way too much tension at first, but you know it’s definitely all going to work out by the end of the movie—because, of course it does. This is Hallmark, after all.

The real star of the show, though, is the family. Megan and Andrew’s relatives are so involved in their love life that it almost feels like the entire family is trying to “fix” their marriage in the most over-the-top way possible. There’s the aunt who won’t stop asking when they’re having kids (because nothing says “holiday cheer” like unsolicited parenting advice), the cousin who insists on making everything about her own perfect love life, and the parents who, of course, are too excited about the idea of grandkids to even notice that the couple is secretly crumbling under pressure. Watching them navigate this overzealous family drama while trying to fix their relationship is as awkward as it is hilarious.

The grand finale? Predictably perfect. After way too many family interventions, unnecessary holiday mishaps, and of course, the heartfelt Christmas kiss you knew was coming, Megan and Andrew realize that love, not perfection, is what matters. The family finally gives them some space (after way too many unsolicited tips), and they rekindle their romance in a perfectly magical Christmas setting—because that’s what Hallmark Christmas movies are all about, right?

“We Wish You a Married Christmas” is the perfect combination of holiday cheer, awkward family moments, and the predictable, yet utterly charming romance that only Hallmark can deliver. If you love watching a married couple try to navigate family chaos, rediscover their love, and celebrate Christmas with way too many cookies, then grab your coziest blanket, your most festive mug of cocoa, and get ready for a movie that is predictably heartwarming, totally hilarious, and just the right amount of Christmas cheer. 🎄❤️🎁
