Review

Movie Review: You, Me and the Christmas Trees
Subtitle: “When A Tree Expert, A Family Crisis, and A Ridiculously Charming Romance Come Together Under One Perfectly Trimmed Christmas Tree.”

You, Me and the Christmas Trees is Hallmark’s latest holiday flick, and it’s everything you could possibly want in a Christmas movie: romance, family drama, Christmas trees galore, and the kind of perfectly predictable holiday magic that makes you wish you had a Christmas tree farm in your backyard. Spoiler alert: it’s got a lot more trees than you’d expect—and yes, they are very involved in the plot.

The story follows Olivia (Danica McKellar), a professional Christmas tree expert (yes, that’s a real job in the Hallmark universe) who is called back to her hometown to help save the local tree farm. There’s just one little problem: the farm’s owner, Jack (Jason Hervey), is also in town, and they have some unresolved tension that’s about as thick as the fake snow falling from the sky. Cue the Christmas magic, awkward reunions, and way too much holiday spirit as Olivia helps Jack find the perfect tree—and maybe rekindle an old flame.

Danica McKellar’s Olivia is the ideal Hallmark heroine: charming, a little bit awkward in the best way, and way too good at identifying the healthiest pine tree in the lot. Jason Hervey’s Jack is the perfectly brooding, charming farm owner who definitely spends way too much time working on his tree-growing skills and not enough time telling Olivia how much he still likes her. Their chemistry is so sweet, it’s like they’re both wrapped in tinsel. But, of course, there’s that whole family farm crisis and tree-saving mission to distract them from falling head over heels into a romance immediately. (But don’t worry, they get there.)

The humor in this movie comes from the sheer absurdity of it all. Olivia has to navigate the totally normal process of saving a tree farm during the busiest time of year, and watching her use her tree expertise to solve problems is both hilarious and endearing. Meanwhile, Jack spends his time in the “I’m just trying to save this farm, but also I’m probably in love with you” mode, which we can all agree is an elite Hallmark hero move. Their banter is cute, especially when they both end up in situations that are completely outside their skill set—like decorating an entire farm with Christmas lights without getting tangled (spoiler: that does not happen).

The small-town setting is quintessential Hallmark: picturesque streets, over-the-top holiday decorations, and a group of well-meaning locals who just want to see Jack and Olivia fall in love already. It’s like someone took Christmas Town and sprinkled it with even more twinkling lights and forced family bonding.

The real star of the movie, however, is the Christmas trees. Olivia spends an abnormal amount of time explaining the subtle differences between spruce, fir, and pine trees—and, honestly, at this point, you’ll know more about trees than you ever thought you’d need to. There are also several scenes where Olivia and Jack stare longingly at particularly perfect trees like they’re the last two people on Earth—and honestly, you’ll get it. Christmas trees are that magical.

By the time the grand finale rolls around—and we’re talking about the big tree lighting ceremony, complete with snowflakes falling perfectly and a heartfelt confession of love—you’ll be melting faster than a snowman in a heatwave. Jack and Olivia finally admit what we all knew the second they locked eyes: they’re perfect for each other, they both love trees, and nothing says “holiday love story” like working together to save a farm—and, of course, kissing under a tree.

You, Me and the Christmas Trees is a funny, heartwarming, and delightfully cheesy holiday movie that hits all the right notes: romance, Christmas trees, family drama, and enough festive cheer to make you want to go out and buy a tree—even if you don’t know the first thing about their species. It’s perfect for anyone who believes the holidays are all about love, trees, and second chances. So grab your cocoa, snuggle up under a blanket, and enjoy the holiday magic of tree-mendous romance. 🌲🎄❤️
