Movie Review: A Christmas Treasure
Subtitle: “When Opening a Time Capsule Unlocks the Key to Your Heart.”
Looking for the best Hallmark movies? A Christmas Treasure is Hallmark’s answer to the question, “What if a time capsule could solve all your problems... and also find you a boyfriend?” It’s a cozy holiday movie packed with festive charm, small-town sweetness, and a piano-playing love interest who can serenade his way into anyone’s heart.
The story follows Lou (Jordin Sparks), an aspiring writer who’s at a crossroads in life, deciding whether to leave her small town for New York or stick around and figure things out. Just in time for Christmas, the town opens a decades-old time capsule, because apparently, that’s what people in Hallmark movies do for fun. Among the trinkets, Lou finds an item that sparks a lot of self-reflection and… well, a love story with Kyle (Michael Xavier), a chef with big dreams and even bigger dimples.
Jordin Sparks brings warmth and relatability to Lou, who spends most of the movie teetering between “Do I stay or do I go?” and “Is this guy too good to be true?” Michael Xavier’s Kyle is everything you want in a Hallmark hero: handsome, talented, and oddly chill about the fact that his entire romantic arc hinges on Christmas baking and a well-timed musical duet in one of the best Hallmark movies.
The real MVP of the movie, though, is the time capsule itself, which somehow manages to stir up drama, nostalgia, and romance all at once. Between Lou’s quest to figure out her future and Kyle’s determination to win her heart (and possibly a cookie competition), the time capsule becomes the ultimate metaphor for finding yourself—wrapped in a bow, of course.
Highlights include:
- Kyle casually whipping up five-star meals while looking like he just stepped out of a holiday magazine spread.
- Lou’s parents, who spend the entire movie subtly pushing her toward Kyle because, honestly, they ship it harder than Santa’s sleigh.
- A hilariously intense tree-lighting ceremony where the stakes feel absurdly high for no apparent reason.
The movie leans heavily on holiday tropes, from cozy snowfalls to heartfelt speeches in front of roaring fireplaces. Lou and Kyle’s romance builds slowly, with plenty of classic Hallmark moments: accidental hand brushes, deep conversations over cocoa, and a big musical number that’s so sweet it might give you a sugar rush.
By the time Lou makes her big decision (spoiler: love and family win, because duh), you’ll be rooting for her, Kyle, and their shared dream of writing, cooking, and decorating gingerbread houses together forever. The finale is everything you’d expect: twinkling lights, a grand romantic gesture, and a kiss so perfectly timed it feels like the mistletoe knew.
A Christmas Treasure is a festive, feel-good rom-com that hits all the right notes—literally, because Jordin Sparks’s voice is like wrapping yourself in a warm holiday blanket. It’s perfect for anyone who loves the best Hallmark movies, small-town charm, musical interludes, and the idea that sometimes, the past holds the key to your future (and maybe your soulmate). Watch it with cocoa, cookies, and a notebook for your own life-changing time capsule ideas. 🎄❤️✨
