"Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa"
Where Reindeer Know Your Address and Snowflakes Are Paid Actors
Ah, the holiday season. The time of year when Hallmark holiday movies snow down upon us with all the subtlety of a blizzard at a knitting club meeting. "Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa" is a film that shines brighter than a Griswold Christmas light display and is as cozy as a onesie made of gingerbread.
In this charming sequel, Evergreen—a place so enchanted even the snowflakes have acting contracts—is bustling with its annual tradition of plotlines colliding like reindeer on a rooftop. Catherine Bell stars as Lisa, a Chicagoan artist who swaps skyscrapers for snowdrifts, only to discover that her true calling is apparently addressing Christmas cards in a town where everyone always seems to be sending letters to Santa, as if the North Pole had a postal code you could Google.
The film throws us into a whirlwind of festivities where evergreen pines are the true MVPs, possibly due to an exclusive deal with the Hallmark movies board of directors. We watch as Lisa, with the help of the town's magical snow globe (cue the twinkle sounds), tackles tasks like fixing relationships, decorating Christmas trees with an uncanny level of craftiness, and unearthing heartwarming nostalgic letters that could melt even the frostiest Grinch.
Of course, what's a Hallmark holiday movie without the classic tropes we all secretly cherish? There's the handsome local contractor, whose woodworking skills are rivaled only by the chisel-like quality of his cheekbones, and the perpetually merry townsfolk who might just break into song at the sight of a particularly well-decorated Christmas cookie. Throughout the film, love letters not only reconnect people but also have the mysterious power of keeping the town's mayor in plaid jackets.
The real star of the film, however, is the town of Evergreen itself—a mystical land where the only thing more reliable than the postal service is the inevitability of a snowball fight leading to romance. As always, the film abides by the inviolable law of Hallmark movies: everyone is unfathomably good-looking and perpetually wearing scarves, despite trudging through idyllic settings only Hallmark holiday movies can conjure.
"Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa" is a yuletide spectacle that delivers everything it promises: holiday cheer, slight dramatic tension resolved in less time than it takes to sip hot cocoa, and a reminder that letters to Santa are much more than wishful thinking—they are the ultimate plot device.
So, snuggle up, grab your eggnog, and prepare for a warmly ridiculous ride. Just don’t be surprised if later you find yourself scribbling down a letter to Old St. Nick with a wink and a nod—after all, you’re practically obligated in Evergreen!
