Review

Movie Review: Five Star Christmas
Subtitle: “Fake Reviews, Real Romance, and More Shenanigans Than a Hallmark Movie Deserves.”

Five Star Christmas is a Hallmark holiday delight that combines family hijinks, a charming bed-and-breakfast, and enough fake personas to make you wonder if this family missed their true calling as improv actors. It’s a heartwarming rom-com where the quest for a perfect online review somehow leads to love, laughter, and a lot of sneaky glances over cups of cocoa.

The story centers on Lucy (Bethany Joy Lenz), who comes home for Christmas to discover that her dad has turned their family home into a B&B. With a mysterious travel critic supposedly coming to review the place, the family decides to fake their way to a five-star rating. That’s right—each family member adopts a “guest persona,” complete with backstories and accents, to impress the critic. Spoiler: they’re hilariously bad at it.

Bethany Joy Lenz shines as Lucy, the relatable and slightly exasperated glue holding this chaotic plan together. Meanwhile, Victor Webster plays Jake, a guest who may or may not be the elusive travel critic. Jake is charming, kind, and suspiciously good at making Lucy blush during breakfast. Their chemistry builds naturally, despite the fact that Lucy is constantly distracted by her family’s escalating madness.

The real stars of this movie are the family members, who throw themselves into their fake identities with all the subtlety of a Christmas parade. Highlights include:
- Lucy’s sister pretending to be a glamorous jet-setter while clearly Googling “fancy foods” mid-conversation.
- Grandpa, who takes on the role of “grumpy guest” so convincingly that you’ll start to wonder if he’s method acting.
- Dad, who spends the entire movie frantically trying to keep the B&B running while his family turns it into a comedy of errors.

As if the fake-guest scheme wasn’t enough, Lucy finds herself drawn to Jake, whose twinkling eyes and perfectly timed jokes make him Hallmark’s quintessential leading man. Their romance unfolds through classic moments: tree-decorating sessions, shared laughs over burnt cookies, and heartfelt talks in front of a roaring fire. By the time Jake’s true identity is revealed, you’ll be rooting for them to get their happily-ever-after—and maybe a real five-star rating.

The movie also delivers plenty of festive charm, with the B&B decked out in lights, garlands, and enough mistletoe to ensure at least three romantic moments. The small-town setting is straight out of a snow globe, complete with friendly neighbors who conveniently show up to save the day during the family’s inevitable meltdown.

The big finale features a Christmas breakfast showdown, where the truth about the family’s antics is revealed—but not before some heartwarming speeches about the importance of family, love, and embracing the chaos. It’s cheesy, sure, but in the best possible way.

Five Star Christmas is a laugh-out-loud holiday treat that leans into its absurd premise with giddy enthusiasm. It’s perfect for anyone who loves festive chaos, big family energy, and the idea that sometimes the best Christmas gifts come with a side of mistaken identity. Watch it with your loved ones and prepare to rate it five stars for pure holiday fun. 🎄⭐❤️
