Movie Review: Jolly Good Christmas
Subtitle: “When British Charm, Christmas Chaos, and Way Too Many Holiday Mix-Ups Collide in the Most Hilarious Way.”

“Jolly Good Christmas” is a festive Hallmark movie that proves that the holidays are the perfect time for a little romance, a lot of confusion, and just the right amount of British humor to make you question whether you should have a cup of tea or an extra glass of eggnog. Set in London (because, of course, it’s Christmas in London—where everything is a bit more charming and dramatic), this movie is a hilarious reminder that nothing says “Christmas cheer” quite like a completely predictable romance, a disastrous series of holiday mix-ups, and way too many moments of “Oh, I’m definitely not falling for you”... until, of course, they do.

The plot follows James (played by Alexander Vlahos), a charming but somewhat clueless event planner who has been hired to make a Christmas proposal absolutely perfect for his client—because what could be more romantic than pulling off the perfect Christmas proposal in London, right? But here’s the catch: James has a huge problem—he’s totally unprepared for his client’s ridiculously detailed demands for this holiday proposal, and he can’t seem to get anything right. Enter Holly (played by Laura Aikman), a no-nonsense Christmas enthusiast and wedding planner who just so happens to be way too organized for James’s chaotic, Christmas-ruining ways. Naturally, they team up to make the proposal happen, and, spoiler alert, they immediately start falling for each other despite their obvious differences—because when has a Hallmark movie ever been that unpredictable?

The humor comes from the sheer absurdity of James’s attempts to put together the perfect proposal for a couple he’s never met. Between misplaced mistletoe, comically failed attempts at decorating, and unintentional holiday disasters (because who doesn’t accidentally cause a little Christmas chaos when trying to impress a client?), James is like a walking disaster in a Christmas sweater. Watching him try to pull off a “romantic winter wonderland” proposal while juggling Holly’s totally sensible suggestions is like watching a child try to assemble IKEA furniture—frustrating, yet hilarious. James’s whole life is basically one big holiday mix-up, and yet, somehow, everything kind of works out... even if it’s in the most chaotic way possible.

And, of course, there’s the romance—because it’s Hallmark, and you know exactly what’s going to happen. James and Holly are definitely not supposed to fall in love, but the charm is in watching them pretend they don’t have chemistry while every single awkward moment makes it blindingly obvious that they’re meant to be. Their forced partnership, the “I’m just here to help you” vibe, and their increasingly ridiculous arguments about the perfect Christmas proposal are pure comedy gold. Every time they’re stuck in a “we’re totally not falling for each other” moment, you just know that they’re about to share a perfectly timed kiss under the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree.

The best part? The town itself—because nothing says “Christmas magic” quite like a fancifully decorated London that looks like a holiday card exploded in the best way possible. The Christmas lights are so spectacular that you’ll wonder if they’re all secretly powered by pure Christmas spirit. The streets are bustling with last-minute shoppers, ridiculously festive street performers, and a group of well-meaning neighbors who are way too involved in James and Holly’s growing romance.

The grand finale is as predictable as a snowstorm in London—James finally gets his act together (with a little help from Holly, of course), the proposal goes way better than expected, and James and Holly share that sweeping kiss you’ve been waiting for the entire movie. Cue the dramatic, overly festive Christmas music, the twinkling lights, and that "everything worked out perfectly" moment that only Hallmark can deliver.

“Jolly Good Christmas” is a hilarious, heartwarming, and slightly absurd holiday movie that will have you laughing at the predictability while secretly loving every second of it. It’s a movie that proves no matter how messy your holiday season gets, love (and a little Christmas magic) always wins. Grab your favorite holiday sweater, a cup of hot cocoa, and get ready for a Jolly Good time full of Christmas chaos, romance, and enough holiday cheer to fill your stockings (even if they’re a little crooked). 🎄💍🎅
