Movie Review: On the 12th Date of Christmas
Subtitle: “Gamifying Love One Awkward Clue at a Time.”

On the 12th Date of Christmas is Hallmark’s playful take on holiday romance, where scavenger hunts, forced proximity, and a ton of festive hijinks turn two coworkers into the ultimate holiday dream team. It’s a rom-com packed with Christmas clichés, workplace banter, and enough mistletoe moments to keep you grinning.

The story centers on Jennifer (Mallory Jansen) and Aiden (Tyler Hynes), two game designers (yes, that’s a real job in Hallmark Land) who are paired up to create a Christmas-themed scavenger hunt for a fancy hotel. Jennifer is bubbly, enthusiastic, and oozing holiday cheer, while Aiden is... the opposite. He’s broody, serious, and allergic to both teamwork and tinsel. Naturally, this makes them a perfect match.

Mallory Jansen is delightfully over-the-top as Jennifer, a walking snow globe of festive spirit who somehow makes creating scavenger hunt clues look like solving world hunger. Tyler Hynes, meanwhile, brings his usual smoldering charm to Aiden, delivering just the right amount of grumpy “bah humbug” energy before inevitably melting into a puddle of Christmas goo. Their chemistry is undeniable, even as they argue over how many candy canes are too many for a single clue. (Spoiler: There’s no such thing as too many.)

The scavenger hunt itself is a ridiculous but fun excuse to sprinkle in every Hallmark holiday trope imaginable. Jennifer and Aiden’s clues lead them to caroling sessions, cookie-decorating contests, ice-skating rinks, and more snowball fights than any two adults should reasonably engage in. Each stop is not only a chance to impress their clients but also an opportunity to share meaningful glances and awkward hand touches.

Highlights include:
- Aiden’s growing realization that Jennifer’s unshakable optimism might just be contagious.
- Jennifer’s uncanny ability to turn every scavenger hunt stop into a mini therapy session for Aiden’s emotional baggage.
- The big twist where the scavenger hunt becomes more about their feelings than the actual game, because obviously.

The supporting cast includes coworkers who double as cheerleaders for their budding romance, a grumpy hotel manager who inexplicably hates joy, and a crowd of townsfolk who show up at just the right moments to make every clue feel like a grand holiday event. Even the hotel itself feels like a character, with its extravagant decorations and conveniently placed mistletoe.

By the time the 12th clue is revealed, Jennifer and Aiden have not only created the ultimate Christmas game but also realized that love might just be the final prize. Their romantic confession is as cheesy and delightful as you’d expect, complete with twinkling lights, perfectly timed snow, and the entire town pretending not to stare as they finally kiss.

On the 12th Date of Christmas is a festive, funny, and feel-good holiday treat that delivers all the Hallmark essentials: opposites attracting, slow-burn romance, and a lot of Christmas magic. It’s perfect for anyone who’s ever dreamed of turning love into a scavenger hunt—or just loves watching broody guys get out-cheered by holiday enthusiasts. Watch it with cocoa, cookies, and maybe a notepad for designing your own 12-date scavenger hunt. 🎄🎁❤️
