Movie Review: Our Christmas Journey
Subtitle: “When Finding Love Means Finding Yourself (and Maybe a Few Christmas Trees Along the Way).”

Our Christmas Journey is Hallmark’s warm and fuzzy contribution to the holiday season, mixing family dynamics, emotional growth, and just enough holiday magic to make you believe in second chances—and possibly reindeer. It’s a feel-good ride through small-town charm, awkward family reunions, and the transformative power of Christmas cheer.

The plot follows Sarah (Nikki DeLoach), a woman whose life is in need of a Christmas miracle (as they all are in Hallmark movies). After a painful breakup, she returns to her hometown to spend the holidays with her family and her teenage son, Noah, who has autism. As the family tries to reconnect and embrace the holiday spirit, Sarah finds herself navigating old emotions, complicated family dynamics, and an unexpected romance with an old high school crush, Lucas (Luke Macfarlane). Cue the awkward eye contact, unspoken feelings, and a few too many snowball fights that lead to heartwarming epiphanies.

Nikki DeLoach’s Sarah is the perfect Hallmark heroine: warm, empathetic, and emotionally charged with just the right amount of unresolved holiday tension. Luke Macfarlane’s Lucas, as always, is the epitome of Hallmark hero perfection—sweet, rugged, and inexplicably good at handling emotional baggage while still managing to look charming. Their chemistry is like a cozy winter blanket—comforting, familiar, and always there when you need it.

The humor comes from Sarah’s increasingly relatable attempts to navigate her family’s well-meaning but totally chaotic holiday traditions. From trying to keep up with her mom’s over-the-top decorating schemes to handling Noah’s Christmas wishes (which, naturally, include “a giant Christmas tree” and “a dad who is not awkward”), every scene is a delightful mix of heartwarming chaos. Meanwhile, Lucas’s efforts to gently step into Sarah’s emotional world while also baking cookies and helping with tree decorations is just chef’s kiss perfect.

The family dynamics are peak Hallmark, with meddling relatives who are far too invested in Sarah’s love life and a group of neighbors who somehow always seem to know exactly what Sarah needs—even before she does. The town itself is practically dripping in Christmas decorations, from streetlight snowflakes to the local coffee shop’s excessive peppermint-flavored everything.

As the movie progresses, so does the romance. Sarah and Lucas’s relationship builds through moments of vulnerability, accidental hand brushes, and the “just one more cup of cocoa” excuse that leads to many late-night heart-to-hearts. By the time they share their first kiss, you’ll feel like you’ve just opened a present you didn’t know you wanted—suddenly everything is a little brighter.

The grand finale is as Hallmark as it gets: the entire town gathers for a big holiday celebration, with emotional speeches, a snowstorm of perfect timing, and a heartfelt declaration of love that leaves everyone cheering. The family comes together, Lucas and Sarah finally figure out their feelings, and Noah? Well, he’s probably making snow angels somewhere in the background, because that’s how these movies work.

Our Christmas Journey is a funny, heartwarming, and emotionally satisfying holiday movie that reminds us that Christmas isn’t just about family traditions—it’s about growing, forgiving, and giving second chances. Watch it with your favorite blanket, a cup of cocoa, and maybe a few tissues—because you know it’s going to tug at your heartstrings... and then tie them in a cute holiday bow. 🎄❤️🎁
